” La Bella Italia ” art and identity of the capital cities.

After being housed in the Palace of Venaria in Turin, the exhibition La Bella Italia ( ” The Beautiful Italy” ) will be hosted at the Pitti Palace from October 10 until March 4, 2012.

Before 1861 every Italian city had its own self-representation and identity that held together historical and cultural elements, artfully displayed in this exhibition, dedicated to Italy and to the identity of its firsts capitals before the Unification.  This exhibition take a picture of these differences, but also ties, unique, artistic and cultural, between the capitals of many Italie.

A new way to call the taxi

Finding a taxi in Florence tomorrow will no longer be a problem for foreigners. Just log on skype with a smartphone and type the word ” taxi “, in just a couple of minutes you will get a car. And all without having to pay the cost of the call (but only the Internet connection).

Continue, until November 27th, this very interesting exhibition on Macchiaioli, an art movement born in Florence and developerd in the second half of the nineteenth century, which will exhibit works by Giovanni Fattori, Signorini, Silvestro Lega, to the triumphs of color Plinio Nomellini, there will be also 48 works from a private collection unknown to the general public. The exhibition has been organized within the halls of Villa Bardini, a splendid villa, now used as exhibition space, adjoining the Boboli Gardens.

B&B and Antiques

Return the “Biennale dell’Antiquariato”, one of the most important event about antiques, in its Twenty-seventh edition, prepared with superb art from the choreographic and theatrical master Pier Luigi Pizzi, which will open at the Palazzo Corsini from the 1st to the 9th of October 2011, just ten minutes walking from our B & B.

Founded in 1959 by an idea of the Bellini brothers, traces its origins from Stefano Bardini and his ability to spread in Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth century antique Italian taste, perfect blend of knowledge, passion and refined aesthetic sense. A love for the art work that is renewed each year, making the relationship between antique and collector surprising and unique, in the vital exchange of objects in the exhibition. antique dealers from around the world, are the undisputed star of the show. But the aspect which is discussed shortly, are the interventions that the Biennale provides for the restoration, through its events, many of the art treasures of Florence. A wonderful opportunity to enjoy a very unique event, and in the heart of the historical center.

Bartolomeo Ammannati at Museum of Bargello: “L’acqua, la pietra, il fuoco”

Continue, until September 18th, the exhibition opened May 11 at the Museum of the Bargello in Florence dedicated to Bartolomeo Ammannati entitled “Water, stone, fire”, held in honor of the fifth centenary of the birth of the artist. The title alludes to the central theme of the exhibition, the three fountains which Ammannati built commisioned  by  Cosimo I De Medici : one covering the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio, one located in piazza della Signoria, the last one for the garden of the Villa Medici at Castello.

Florence: Terrace with views

An unmissable journey from Florence to see the city’s most beautiful terraces. Last summer has been a successful initiative, appreciated by both tourists and Florentines, is revived in 2011 with some news: it’s Terrace with a view, promoted by the Tourism of the Province of Florence.
Are involved seventeen terraces of hotels and restaurants offering all so a handful of privileged observation points over the city.

Terrace with view from June 15 to September 30, you can spend an evening a very special location: Arno, the hills or from a tower in the heart of the historic center.

Involved in the hotel you can enjoy an aperitif or a drink with afterdinner sunset over the city: a great experience not to be missed. In the rare cases in which the service of administration are missing, the terraces are still open to anyone who wants to go to enjoy a view over Florence out of the ordinary

The event will also have its photo contest, with its own dedicated page on Flickr. Among all the photos will be published, a selection will be made and whoever made the most striking photos will win a two night stay in a hotel in Florence. Last year the competition was won by Paul Burrini with a black and white photos taken from the Hotel Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni 1.

The sites ‘Terrace with a view’ are beautiful, and so, if you will bring in at least three terraces, making the stamp initiative brochure, you will be rewarded with a souvenir of Florence, which can be withdrawn at tourist information offices in the Province , Via Cavour 1r and the airport of Peretola.
